ABI showcased ahead of Rio+20

The Agulhas Biodiversity Initiative (ABI) is being showcased by the United Nations, ahead of the Rio+20 sustainable development conference. The article on ABI and its partners is currently featuring on the United Nations website.

Called ‘One small step for a hippo, but a giant leap for conservation in South Africa’, it features ABI’s success since 2003. This includes the release of hippo on the Agulhas Plain by the Nuwejaars Wetland Special Management Area – a first in 150 years.

The Rio+20 sustainable development conference will be held in June this year. It is forecast to be the largest event in the history of the UN.

Flower Valley Conservation Trust is the interim coordinator for ABI. The Trust is currently preparing for the launch of the second phase of the initiative, which will take the ABI partnership up to 2014.
