Training starts for 300 alien clearers
Employees who form part of the ABI Alien Clearing Project received their basic invasive alien clearing training. The training was hosted by SANParks, at the SANParks Bosheuwel Facility near Cape Agulhas, in November.
Approximately 300 alien clearers attended the training, learning more about the kinds of invasive aliens found on the Agulhas Plain, and the techniques required to remove them. Different alien species require different methods to kill them - including methods called ringbarking trees, or frilling trees. Specific herbicide is also often required for individual alien species.
Our thanks to SANParks for the use of their facilities, and their lecturers, during the training.
