Cape Whale Coast selected as Hope Spot
The Overstand is one of just five Hope Spots that are to be launched in South Africa later this year. Hope Spots are special conservation areas that are critical to the health of SA’s oceans.
The Cape Whale Coast, or Overstrand Hope Spot will be officially launched by marine conservationist and National Geographic explorer-in-residence, Sylvia Earle, in December.
In the meantime, the public has been invited to attend a public meeting to showcase many of the marine conservation, research and education initiatives taking place in the Overstrand. The meeting will also discuss the development of the region as a Hope Spot. Overstrand Mayor Nicolette Botha-Guthrie will address the gathering.
The meeting is set to take place on 3 June, from 17h30 to 20h30 at the Fernkloof Hall in the Fernkloof Nature Reserve, Hermanus.
Those wishing to attend the meeting are requested to RSVP to Helouise.
