Overberg coastal development in the works
A Coastal Management Programme is set to be developed for the entire Overberg coast - to seek to balance conservation with development of the coast. The Overberg District Municipality is now calling interested parties to attend various meetings held across the Overberg in April.
The Coastal Management Programme aims to enhance the use of coastal resources. According to the ODM's project description, it will allow both government and non-governmental organisations to support sustainable coastal development. The description states, "It aims to achieve a balance between the conservation of the natural, historic, cultural and aesthetic values of the coastal region with the need for economic development and growth." The coastline, from the Rooi Els River in the west, to the Breede River in the east, will form part of the assessment.
Interested and affected parties are now invited to attend several public meetings, to offer input on the programme. The following meetings have been set up:
Monday 14 April 2014 - Kleinmond Library Hall (10am-12pm)
