Conservancies invited to mapping workshop

Conservancy members are invited to attend a mapping workshop in Cape Town early in 2013. The workshop will teach practical tools, which conservancies and individuals can use to map, visualise and share information about conservation efforts on private land.

The workshop, ‘Visualising conservation on private land with Google Geo Tools’, is hosted by the MAPA Project and Conservation at Work. The workshop is free of charge, and will be held on 7 and 8 February 2013, at the University of Cape Town. Applications close on 15 December 2012. For more, visit http://geoforprivateconservation.mapatraining.org. Please email alta@mapaproject.org with any queries.

At the same time, a mapping toolkit is also being made available on the internet to conservancies. The website offers online mapping resources to map conservation areas, and allows members to communicate the maps with stakeholders. These maps can be downloaded as PDFs or embedded on a website.Visit http://privateconservation.mapatraining.org/home for more.
