The TMF in the Overberg
The Table Mountain Fund (TMF) team visited the Agulhas Biodiversity Initiative (ABI) area in late November - to learn more about the ABI Small Grants Programme. The TMF, an associated trust of WWF-South Africa, is funding the Small Grants Programme, which will see between 15 and 20 community-based conservation projects receiving support.
The team, consisting of Dr Cliff Dlamini, Carla Wood and Noxolo Kabane, met with the ABI Coordination Unit, as well as some of the ABI theme leaders.
The ABI Small Grants Programme aims to bring municipalities closer to biodiversity conservation themes. ABI is now working with the Cape Agulhas Municipality, the Overstrand Municipality, and the Overberg District Municipality, in rolling out the project. Small community-based projects that meet a set of specific
criteria will be selected to then receive support.
This is not the first time the TMF has proven itself a key partner in the ABI-area. The TMF also funded the planning and set-up of ABI, as ABI entered a new phase of operations, and has supported ABI Partners including the Nuwejaars Wetland Special Management Area in the past.
