Overberg area pinpointed for wind and solar opportunities

Much of the Overberg has been identified as an area of national strategic importance for wind and solar power development. The Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA) and the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) will now host a roadshow of the strategic environmental assessment of the Overberg. The meeting will be held in Bredasdorp on 18 March. Interested parties are welcome to attend.

The area identified covers all four of the B-municipalities (Cape Agulhas, Overstrand, Theewaterskloof and Swellendam) in the Overberg, and stretches into the Eden District Municipality. It is one of eight areas highlighted across the country.

DEA and the CSIR are now undertaking a roadshow to engage with local communities on the matter. The meeting takes place at the Nelson Mandela Hall, on Tuesday 18 March, between 17.30 - 19.30.
