APRIL, 2018

Before the fire season started on 1 November 2017, fire officials warned of the massive threat of wildfires – especially in the dry conditions that the Overberg has been experiencing.

And it showed just that, with more than 40 wildfires being recorded for the 2017/18 fire season.

But thanks to the Greater Overberg Fire Protection Association (goFPA), landowners, fire officials, municipalities and partners, these wildfires could be contained and extinguished.

The goFPA works with landowners to create integrated fire-management plans that can help prevent wildfires from occurring. And if a wildfire does spark up, the goFPA helps by “providing coordination, resource procurement and critical information to ensure effective and efficient firefighting efforts.”

To show the extent of the wildfires this season, goFPA have put together a timeline providing more insight into the hours and dangerous work that fire officials put in to keep everyone safe. Have a look here.
