Fire and invasive plant management highlighted at ABI AGM
The Agulhas Biodiversity Initiative held its annual general meeting on Wednesday, 24 June – with fire and invasive alien plants featuring strongly on the agenda.
ABI AGM hosted on 24 June 2015
The Agulhas Biodiversity Initiative will host its third annual general meeting as a voluntary association on 24 June 2015. ABI partners are invited to attend the meeting, which will be held at Van Brakel Store, between Caledon and Napier.
Call for ABI Small Grants proposals
The Agulhas Biodiversity Initiative (ABI) is now calling for proposals to the ABI Small Grants Fund. Projects and organisations have until Friday 19 June 2015 to apply for small grants funding.
Stripes and frogs visit local schools
Stripes the Eco-Cat and the Citizen Science Frog Monitoring Project are being showcased to about 2000 children around the Overstrand region. Both these Whale Coast Conservation projects are beneficiaries under the ABI Small Grants Facility. They’re part of the Sustainability Expo 2015, visiting Gansbaai, Hermanus, Stanford and other towns here. Well done to WCC for raising conservation themes with the region’s children.
Government, landowners meet on invasive alien clearing
The threat of invasive alien plants on the Agulhas Plain was central at a two-day workshop held between government, landowners and non-governmental organisations in April. The Agulhas Biodiversity Initiative (ABI), coordinated by Flower Valley Conservation Trust, and the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) hosted the workshop aimed at strengthening invasive alien management in the area. This was the first get-together of its kind in the region.
