Management burns in ABI-area

The Nuwejaars Wetland Special Management Area (NWSMA) has, with key support from the Greater Overberg Fire Protection Association and other partners, undertaken two major management burns in recent weeks. Working with the Working on Fire teams, the two areas burnt within the NWSMA amounted to approximately 1000 hectares. Much of the veld that was burnt was older than 20 years and had been infested by invasive alien plants.

Research and visitor centre now open

The Overberg Lowlands Conservation Trust has officially launched its Research and Visitor Centre for guests and researchers. The Centre is based on Haarwegskloof, close to the De Hoop Nature Reserve. The Centre can now accommodate students and scientists – with several research workshops already hosted by the Trust. The Trust is run by Dr Odette Curtis, who is also an ABI Committee member.
