Five new projects receive ABI support
Turning invasive alien plants into crafts to support people living with disabilities: this is one of the new projects receiving support from the Agulhas Biodiversity Initiative (ABI) Small Grants Programme.
Snake awareness for alien clearing teams
ABI Alien Clearing team members from the Napier Mountain Conservancy attended a Field Safety & Snake Awareness day. Seventeen of the ABI project’s participants attended the course, held on 29 October.

Tough fire season ahead in the Overberg
The current weather forecasts and historic trends show that the Overberg is likely to face a tough fire season. According to Louise Wessels, Manager of the Greater Overberg Fire Protection Association at the ABI Partners’ meeting, the region is now preparing for fire season, which officially launched on 6 November.
Supporting conservation action in the Overberg
Five projects that received support through the ABI Small Grants Fund in its second year are showing benefits for conservation and communities in the Overberg.
ABI AGM hosted on 24 June 2015
The Agulhas Biodiversity Initiative will host its third annual general meeting as a voluntary association on 24 June 2015. ABI partners are invited to attend the meeting, which will be held at Van Brakel Store, between Caledon and Napier.
Call for ABI Small Grants proposals
The Agulhas Biodiversity Initiative (ABI) is now calling for proposals to the ABI Small Grants Fund. Projects and organisations have until Friday 19 June 2015 to apply for small grants funding.
Swellendam Wind Farm report available
The final environmental impact assessment report on the proposed Goereesoe Wind Farm near Swellendam is now available. This is the final opportunity for interested and affected parties to comment – before the report is submitted to the Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA). DEA will then review the comments and make the final decision on the project. Final comments are due before 17 March 2015.
Agulhas Park launches new chalets
The Agulhas National Park, a partner of the Agulhas Biodiversity Initiative, has launched eight new chalets at the Agulhas Rest Camp, close to the southernmost tip of Africa. The chalets were officially opened on Friday 5 December, 2014.
